How to split data from 1 column into several columns
1. Select the column which has the Data that needs to be split
2. Go to the Data Tab > Data Tools > Text to Columns
3. You are now working with the “ Convert Text to Columns” wizard.
4. Select either “Delimited” or “Fixed With” that best describes your data – suggestion -for “text” data then “Delimited” works better and with numbers “Fixed With” may work better. Click Next.
5. Select the Delimiter – click Next
6. Select the Column Data Format and you can see a preview of how the data will look like in “Data preview.”
7. Click on the Finish button and click OK. You will see the data organized into separate columns.
How to Create a Table of Content of all Spreadsheets Within a Workbook
Example - Your Excel file may have 2 or more worksheets. Eg. Data 1, Data 2, Data 3 and so on.
You need to quickly create a Table of contents on the first worksheet for easy access to all the other worksheets in that file.
1. Insert a new worksheet and name it Table of Contents
2. Click in cell A1 and type in Data 1, cell B1 – Data 2, cell C1 – Data 3 and so on.
3. Click on cell A1 “Data 1” to select it. Right click and select Hyperlink. On the “Insert Hyperlink” box, select the second option called “Place in this Document” and select “Data 1” and click Ok.
4. Repeat this step for all the names you want to hyperlink, eg. Data 2 and Data 3
5. You have now created a link to all your other worksheets
How to Merge Columns in Excel
1. Click on the blank cell where you want to put the new merged data from the different columns.
2. Go to Formula Tab>Insert Function and the “Insert Function” pop up window will appear.
3. In the Search for Function type “text” and click Go.
4. Select the “CONCATENATE” function and click OK.
5. The “Function Arguments” pop up window box appears. Next, select the first cell of the first column you want to merge in “Text1” and enter the second cell address in “Text2”, Click OK.
6. A new column is created with the merged data.
